2006: NFL Safety Steve Gleason was the hero of the Super Bowl between the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons. He blocked a punt, and the New Orleans Saints went on to win the Super Bowl that year, the first victory after the devastation from Hurricane Katrina. The spirit of the city was raised up and a statute with Gleason’s likeness was immortalized outside the Super Dome in his honor. The statue was named “Rebirth”..
2011: shortly after Steve had retired from the NFL, and just as he and his wife Michel had their son, Rivers, Steve was diagnosed with ALS. Steve decided at that point to start making video journals so that his son could one day know what his father was really like.
